Lawmakers Urge the Pentagon to Delay Furloughs
The Pentagon has asked to shift $3.7 billion from Air Force and Navy personnel accounts to the Army and to shift $800 million in cash from working capital funds to the Army, Whitman noted. The department's working capital funds, which are funded primarily through sales of products and services to the military, are losing money because of rising fuel costs, officials said. The department is also concerned that trying to slow spending would reduce services to soldiers and their families on bases around the world. Rep. Thomas M. Davis III (R-Va.) said yesterday that the Pentagon also could turn to the "feed and forage act," which has been used by the military since before the Civil War, to maintain operations. Davis noted that the law was used during the Vietnam War to sustain combat operations when appropriated funds fell short.
Chrysler wipes out 13,000 jobs
The slumping U.S. auto market dealt another blow to automotive jobs in Canada Thursday as Chrysler LLC announced it will eliminate about 1,100 jobs in Brampton, Ont. as part of its second restructuring in eight months. Chrysler will wipe out the third shift in Brampton during the first quarter of 2008, following on the heels of General Motors of Canada Ltd., which will stop third-shift production at a pickup truck plant in Oshawa, Ont., in January. �The market situation has changed dramatically in the eight months since Chrysler established the recovery and transformation plan as its blueprint,� Chrysler chairman and chief executive officer Bob Nardelli said in a statement Thursday. The move angered Canadian Auto Workers union president Buzz Hargrove.

Gingerbread Houses Raise Funds For Lydia's House (Recipe Included)
ST. LOUIS, MO - St. Louis' top chefs and culinary students will be displaying their Gingerbread masterpieces during the holiday season at Plaza Frontenac.
The creations will raise funds to benefit the women and children of Lydia's House, a local organization providing transitional housing and support for victims of domestic violence. .
